FAQ
Turkish tourist visa is for 90 days. If you plan to stay in Turkey for a longer period, you must apply for a residence permit. If you leave Turkey after 90 days, you must pay a fine or you may be banned from entering Turkey.
There are four different types of Turkish residence permit:
Short-term residence permit. This residence permit is valid for one year and is usually renewable for two years.
Long-term residence permit, if you have resided continuously for more than eight years, you can apply for this type of residence permit. This type of residence permit has no time limit.
Family residence permit for people who are married to a Turkish citizen or minors whose sponsor is a Turkish citizen.
Student residence permit for those who are studying at a university level in Turkey, including bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate.
If this is the first time you are applying for a residence permit through the Turkish Residence Department, your application is considered new. Even if you have already had a residence permit in Turkey and it has expired, and now you are converting your tourist residence into a residence permit, your residence permit is considered new. Extension of residence permit is only for people who have a valid residence permit that has expired. It is possible to renew the residence permit by mail, but people who get a residence permit for the first time must apply in person.
Color printout of the completed residence permit application form.
Passport. It is better to have several color copies of your passport and the page with your entry stamp.
Tax number (which you must have received from one of the tax offices)
Color copy of insurance policy with seal and signature. Insurance is not required for people under 18 years old and over 65 years old.
Four pieces of six by four photos. Photos should be with a white background and taken within the last six months.
Proof of residence. The best way to prove residency is to present a rental agreement that has been approved by a notary public.
Residence card. Each region has a population office, and by referring to it, you will be given a card stating that you live in this neighborhood. This card is called a residence card. You can get this card by presenting your house rent or gas, electricity or water bill.
In addition to the above documents, the following documents may also be required from you. The following documents are not necessary, but it is better to know that there is a possibility that the employee of the residence office will ask you for these documents, so it is much better if you bring them with you.
Your residence permit is valid until the day your insurance expires, so if your insurance expires on December 1st, your residence permit will be granted until the same time.
The time interval between the approval of the residence permit and the receipt of the card is different. If you are lucky, you will receive the residence card between one and two weeks, but receiving the card may take up to the maximum legal deadline of 90 days.
Yes, you can leave Turkey for 15 days after the interview. When you interview, you will be given a sheet confirming your interview (make sure it has a stamp and signature). Carry this sheet with you until you receive your residence card. You can leave Turkey for a maximum of 15 days by bringing this document and payment receipts for the residence permit.
No, if your trip is not very necessary and your 90 days of tourist stay is over, do not do this at all. In emergency situations, you should go to the residence office and get their permission. If you leave Turkey without coordination, you will be subject to a fine, you may have difficulty entering Turkey, and your residence permit application may be revoked.
Yes, if the 90-day period of your tourist stay has not ended, you can leave Turkey and return.
The only possible way is to account for your 90-day stay in Türkiye. If you have a large number of entries and exits, you must add the time between the entry and exit stamps together. You can also ask the time of arrival in Turkey at the passport control counter, but there have been cases where wrong information has been given. It is better to watch the time yourself.
The legal deadline for leaving without penalty after the end of the stay is 10 days. But some passport control officials are not aware of this issue. In our opinion, it is better to ignore this deadline altogether and if you are going to leave Turkey after the end of your stay, finally leave Turkey on the same day it ends.
Yes. This is very common. Just make sure you leave Turkey before your previous residence permit expires.
Yes, as long as you apply for a residence permit before the 90-day tourist visa expires, you can stay in Turkey.
Notify the police immediately after losing your Residence Permit card. Then go to the residence office where you live (no need to make an appointment in advance), inform them and pay the necessary fees to obtain a new residence permit.
Go to the residence office of your place of residence immediately without making an appointment. Bring a color copy of your passport and a photo (according to what I heard, the maximum time interval between getting a passport and going to the residence office is about 2 weeks to 20 days)
You should go to the population office of your region. Take the lease and residence card with you and request a change of address. Take the new residence card to the residence office of your place of residence (it is recommended to bring the lease approved by the notary)
(With the approval of new circulars and laws, these amounts may also change. To find out about these amounts, contact our experts)
You can pay this amount online or pay in cash at the residence office.
If your residence permit is short-term, you do not have a limit to stay outside Türkiye. But if you apply for a long-term residence permit, the time you are abroad should not exceed one year. Even if you have a long-term residence permit, you should not stay outside of Türkiye for more than one year.
Many people who work as consultants in this field may say that they know ways to circumvent the law and facilitate the process of obtaining residency. Ways like document forgery, etc. We strongly suggest you do not do this. In recent years, the process of obtaining residence has become very regular and detailed, and especially the government has become very sensitive to such issues, and the possibility of detection and fines is very high.
The best way is for the university where you are studying to advise you in this field. Larger universities usually do this for you. New Altasys universities may have a little problem in this field, but usually you can get the best help from your university.
The deadline for submitting additional documents is 30 days, but we strongly recommend that you submit your documents earlier. It is better to know the name of the employee who interviewed you if they ask you for additional documents.
No, you can choose the interview time only from the times provided on the site.
Yes, carry your residence card with you. It is better to keep a color copy of the back and front of the residence card somewhere else.
If one of the child’s parents is a citizen of Türkiye, the child is automatically considered a citizen of Türkiye.
If none of the parents are Turkish citizens, the child’s birth certificate gives him a six-month residence permit (if more than six months are left on the parents’ residence permit). .
