1- Who should apply for a residence permit?

Turkish tourist visa is for 90 days. If you plan to stay in Turkey for a longer period, you must apply for a residence permit. If you leave Turkey after 90 days, you must pay a fine or you may be banned from entering Turkey.

2- What are the different types of residence permits?

There are four different types of Turkish residence permit:

Short-term residence permit. This residence permit is valid for one year and is usually renewable for two years.

Long-term residence permit, if you have resided continuously for more than eight years, you can apply for this type of residence permit. This type of residence permit has no time limit.

Family residence permit for people who are married to a Turkish citizen or minors whose sponsor is a Turkish citizen.

Student residence permit for those who are studying at a university level in Turkey, including bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate.

3- Given that I entered Turkey with a tourist visa, is my action for residence permit considered new or an extension of Resident Permit?

If this is the first time you are applying for a residence permit through the Turkish Residence Department, your application is considered new. Even if you have already had a residence permit in Turkey and it has expired, and now you are converting your tourist residence into a residence permit, your residence permit is considered new. Extension of residence permit is only for people who have a valid residence permit that has expired. It is possible to renew the residence permit by mail, but people who get a residence permit for the first time must apply in person.

4- What documents are needed to apply for a residence permit?

In addition to the above documents, the following documents may also be required from you. The following documents are not necessary, but it is better to know that there is a possibility that the employee of the residence office will ask you for these documents, so it is much better if you bring them with you.

5- What are the important points in the field of insurance?

Your residence permit is valid until the day your insurance expires, so if your insurance expires on December 1st, your residence permit will be granted until the same time.

6- After confirming the residence permit, how long should I wait to get the residence card?

The time interval between the approval of the residence permit and the receipt of the card is different. If you are lucky, you will receive the residence card between one and two weeks, but receiving the card may take up to the maximum legal deadline of 90 days.

7- Can I leave Turkey between the interview and receiving the residence card?

Yes, you can leave Turkey for 15 days after the interview. When you interview, you will be given a sheet confirming your interview (make sure it has a stamp and signature). Carry this sheet with you until you receive your residence card. You can leave Turkey for a maximum of 15 days by bringing this document and payment receipts for the residence permit.

8- Can I leave Turkey before the interview?

No, if your trip is not very necessary and your 90 days of tourist stay is over, do not do this at all. In emergency situations, you should go to the residence office and get their permission. If you leave Turkey without coordination, you will be subject to a fine, you may have difficulty entering Turkey, and your residence permit application may be revoked.

9- I have applied for a residence permit, can I leave Turkey during the 90-day tourist stay period?

Yes, if the 90-day period of your tourist stay has not ended, you can leave Turkey and return.

10- How can I make sure that my tourist stay period has not ended?

The only possible way is to account for your 90-day stay in Türkiye. If you have a large number of entries and exits, you must add the time between the entry and exit stamps together. You can also ask the time of arrival in Turkey at the passport control counter, but there have been cases where wrong information has been given. It is better to watch the time yourself.

11- How long can I leave Turkey without paying a fine after my residence permit expires?

The legal deadline for leaving without penalty after the end of the stay is 10 days. But some passport control officials are not aware of this issue. In our opinion, it is better to ignore this deadline altogether and if you are going to leave Turkey after the end of your stay, finally leave Turkey on the same day it ends.

12- My residence permit is about to expire. Can I leave and re-enter Turkey and use the 90-day tourist Visa?

If your residence permit is short-term, you do not have a limit to stay outside Türkiye. But if you apply for a long-term residence permit, the time you are abroad should not exceed one year. Even if you have a long-term residence permit, you should not stay outside of Türkiye for more than one year.

20- Are there solutions to bypass the law and simplify the residency process?

25- What is the residence requirement If I give birth to a child in Türkiye ?

If one of the child’s parents is a citizen of Türkiye, the child is automatically considered a citizen of Türkiye.
